How do you take care of your new Cacti and Succulents?
Olivra Homedecor will provide you with our 4 BEST Cactus and Succulent Care Tips.
Succulents are wonderful plants to have in your Home because they are easier to maintain then your typical house plant. But there are a few things you’ll need to know to get started. Here are our 4 BEST Cactus and Succulent Care Tips. To make sure that your new cacti and succulents live a long and healthy life!
1. Don’t over water your plants
Ideally, you should water your cacti and succulents whenever the compost dries out fully from your last watering. When this happens, water again and don’t give any more until the compost has dried out once again.
Give less water if the plants are growing in a colder or shady position. Also, in winter times you should water your cacti and succulents less, giving just enough to keep the soil almost dry.
Just remember, cacti only need sufficient water to prevent them from shriveling.
Humidity can be a killer for your cacti and succulent plants. In hot, steamy bathrooms you should grow Jungle Cacti that are native to rainforests. These jungle cacti tend to trail and have large flowers so can be grown in our Hanging Planters, saving counter space.
Quick Fact: Most house cacti and succulents are killed by overwatering. They are desert plants and they like the soil to be very dry.
2. Give your plants direct sunlight
This must be the most enjoyable tip we can give you from our 4 BEST Cactus and Succulent Care Tips. Who doesn't enjoy their window full of all the cacti and succulents you own in your favorite planters.
All cacti and succulents have the same requirements and are very happy to sit in a sunny window for most of the day. In summer you can put them on the patio, but remember that the more sun they get, the more water they’ll need.
3. Use cactus or succulent fertilizer
It’s important to remember that whether they are outside in the garden exposed to seasonal extremes or in a bright sunny spot in the house, fertilizing cactus plants can keep them happily growing no matter the season.
Just like with any other garden or houseplant, Fertilizing Cactus plants will help them adapt, actively grow, grow there flowers and even multiply if that’s one of their characteristics. Cacti fertilizer requirements are pretty simple. Any good houseplant food (diluted to half) that’s higher in phosphorus than nitrogen is a good choice.
4. Neglect your cacti and succulents
These quirky plants make ideal room-mates as they are very low in maintenance and will withstand most maltreatment, except for heavy-handed watering and feeding.
In fact, they are pretty easy to grow indoors because they thrive on neglect! All you need to do is check on them and give them water about twice a month and that’s it.
We hope that you can implement our 4 BEST Cactus and Succulent Care Tips and can enjoy your new plants, preferably in one of our Decorative Planters or maybe even one of our Terrariums. Finally, remember one of the “golden rules of growing” as you plan to care for your cactus plants: never overfeed! Overfeeding is as dangerous to your cactus plants as overwatering is to any plant.
